Bean Selection: Papua New Guinea’s Blue Mountain Typica
Every journey begins with a first step. For Imunika, that first step is selecting beans whose story and flavor are worth sharing. Our wellness coffee begins in the remote highlands of Papua New Guinea, where one of the world’s most well-known Arabica varietals grows under forest canopy and mountain mist — Blue Mountain Typica.
A Rare and Prestigious Origin
Blue Mountain Typica traces its roots back to Jamaica, where it earned a reputation as one of the most prestigious coffees in the world. In Papua New Guinea’s Eastern Highlands, this varietal finds a new home. Here, at altitudes of 1,800–2,200 meters, coffee trees mature slowly, developing a sweetness and complexity that cannot be rushed.
Our beans are shade-grown beneath the native forest canopy in Marawaka, a region so remote it remains largely untouched by modern agriculture. Farms here are small-holder plots, each tended with care, passed down through generations.

Shade-Grown in Harmony with Nature
In Marawaka, Eastern Highlands, coffee trees grow beneath the protective canopy of native forests. This shade-grown method slows bean maturation. It also sustains a rich ecosystem: over 700 exotic bird species — including the Birds of Paradise — thrive here, alongside countless plants and insects that keep the soil alive and healthy.
Farms are small-holder plots, tended without pesticides, where coffee production and conservation go hand in hand. This approach doesn’t just produce exceptional quality; it safeguards biodiversity and preserves the cultural heritage of the communities who grow it.

From Highlands to Cup
Our process honors the origin while enhancing its potential. Once harvested, beans are transported to Korea, where they undergo our proprietary four-week microbial fermentation with a patented mushroom beta-glucan complex. This step preserves the origin’s natural character while creating an exceptionally smooth, clean cup.

Looking Ahead: Expanding Our Origins
Papua New Guinea is only the beginning of our bean journey. Later this year, we’ll introduce two new origins:
-
Imunika Gold — Ethiopian Guji with floral brightness and sun-dried fruit sweetness.
-
Imunika Blue — Colombian CO2 Decaf, smooth and naturally sweet without caffeine.
Each will go through the same meticulous selection and fermentation process, bringing new dimensions to the Imunika experience.
